My 2022 started off with 6 weeks of rest while I recovered from an amazing operation to replace a bearing in my neck (!). My “big race” was going to be my 3rd Marathon des Sables (250km, 7 days, desert on foot) in Morocco in March along with our son Chris. A month into training I acquired a stress fracture in my pelvis so it was back to resting. (Chris had a good time).
In the summer, just for fun, I entered two Ironman Triathlon 70.3’s (1.9km swim, 90km bike, 21km run) on consecutive weekends. The first, in Nice, was a disaster when I ran out of time on the bike going over Col de Vence (I did it fine in training). The second was in Vendee (France) and went really well.
In September Penny and I did the non athletic Temple Classic Car Rally around Greece, Italy and Sicily. 6,000km of driving in 2 weeks. Really the finisher award (actually a bookmark) is more for our 1970 MGB GT than me!
Finally, in October, I did 2 marathons in 2 weekends. The first was Nice-Cannes, my 14th, and the second was the original route of Marathon to Athens. I made YouTube videos during both so you can see how they went. [Nice Video] [Athens Video]
So all in all 3 athletic medals out of a possible 5. I guess not bad for 65 🙂
